How Predicta Works

Predicta is a real-world event contract exchange where you trade on the outcomes of real-world events, modeled after regulated event exchanges like Kalshi. Instead of crypto or USDC, you trade in your local West African currency. Our treasury handles the conversion to USD/USDC behind the scenes for stability.

1 What Are Event Contracts?

An event contract exchange lets you buy and sell shares in the outcome of real-world events. Each market poses a simple yes-or-no question — for example, "Will Bitcoin exceed $150,000 by December 2026?"

Shares are priced between and 100¢, representing the probability of an outcome. A share priced at 73¢ means the market believes there's roughly a 73% chance the event will occur. Price = Probability.

Every market is fully collateralized: the price of a Yes share + the price of a No share always equals the local currency equivalent of $1.00. If Yes is at 73¢, No is at 27¢. This is the same system used by Polymarket and Kalshi.

2 How Trading Works

Every market has two outcomes: Yes and No. Their prices always add up to the local currency equivalent of $1.00. Every trade is fully collateralized — you pay the full amount upfront. No margin, no debt, no surprises.

Buy "Yes"
You think the event will happen
Buy "No"
You think the event won't happen
Market Orders
Instant fill at the best available price. A small taker fee applies — you're taking liquidity from the book.
Limit Orders
Set your own price and wait for a match. 0% fee — you're providing liquidity to the market.
⚙ Minting
When a Yes buyer at X¢ and a No buyer at (100-X)¢ meet, the system mints both shares from the equivalent of $1.00. This is how new shares enter the market.
🔄 Merging
Hold 1 Yes + 1 No share? Merge them and cash in for the equivalent of $1.00 anytime before resolution. Guaranteed — no risk.
💡 Example Trade

The market asks: "Will Bitcoin exceed $150,000 by December 2026?"

Yes shares are trading at 35¢ (No shares are at 65¢). You believe Bitcoin will hit the target, so you buy 100 Yes shares for Le 7.88 (100 × 35¢ in local currency).

If Bitcoin exceeds $150k → each Yes share pays the equivalent of $1.00, you get Le 22.50 (profit: Le 14.63).
If it doesn't → Yes shares expire at $0.00 (loss: Le 7.88 — exactly what you paid, nothing more).

3 How Payouts Work

When a market resolves (the event's outcome is determined), payouts are automatic and instant:

💰
Winning shares pay the equivalent of $1.00 each
If you hold "Yes" and the event happens, or "No" and it doesn't — paid out in your local currency
📉
Losing shares pay $0.00
The other side receives nothing when the market resolves
🔄
Sell anytime before resolution
Don't want to wait? Sell your shares at the current market price to lock in profit or cut losses
📊 Profit Calculation

Your profit = (payout - purchase price) × number of shares

Example: Buy 100 Yes at 35¢ = Le 7.88 investment. If you're right: Le 22.50 payout, profit of Le 14.63.

Max loss is always what you paid. No margin, no hidden fees, no debt. Fully collateralized.

4 The Order Book & Pricing

Prices are set by supply and demand — buyers and sellers placing orders on the order book. When you open a market, you'll see:

Bid (Buy Price)
The highest price someone is willing to pay for a share right now
Ask (Sell Price)
The lowest price someone is willing to sell a share for right now

The spread is the gap between bid and ask. Tighter spreads mean more active, liquid markets. Implied Ask: Best Yes Ask = 100¢ - Best No Bid.

💸 Maker / Taker Fee Model
Makers (Limit Orders) — 0% Fee
Your order rests on the book, providing liquidity. You pay no fee as a reward for making the market.
Takers (Market Orders) — Small Fee
Your order fills instantly by taking liquidity. A small fee applies to help keep the platform running.

5 Your Money — Local Currency Trading

All deposits and withdrawals are in your local currency. Predicta's treasury automatically converts to USD/USDC internally for stability — protecting your balance from local currency fluctuations.

💵

🏦

💰
You Withdraw
Back to local currency

Deposit via mobile money (Orange Money, MTN MoMo, Africell Money) or fintech apps (OPay, PalmPay, Vult, EZPay). Your local currency is automatically converted to USD/USDC at the live exchange rate.

All share prices on the platform are displayed in your local currency equivalent. When you withdraw or receive a payout, the treasury converts back to your local currency at the current rate.

This protects your trading balance from local currency fluctuations — your money maintains its purchasing power regardless of exchange rate swings.

6 How Markets Resolve

Every market has clear, verifiable resolution criteria defined when it's created — just like Polymarket and Kalshi.

📋
Official Sources
Resolution is based on official, publicly verifiable sources — government data, official results, verifiable records.
Resolution Triggers
Markets resolve when: the event occurs, the deadline passes, or the outcome becomes certain.
Automatic Payouts
After resolution, winning shares are automatically paid out to your balance. No action needed from you.
🛡
Dispute Process
If a resolution is contested, the platform reviews the outcome based on the original criteria and official sources.

7 Tips for Success

📚
Do your research
The more you know about an event, the better your edge. Follow local news, sports, and politics.
💰
Start small
Begin with small trades to learn how markets move. Increase your positions as you gain experience.
📈
Diversify your positions
Don't put everything in one market. Spread your trades across different categories and countries.
Trade the movement, not just the outcome
You don't have to wait for resolution. If the price moves in your favor, sell your shares early to lock in profit.
💸
Use limit orders for better prices
Limit orders let you set your own price and pay 0% fees. Patient traders often get better entries.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from gambling?

Predicta operates as a real-world event contract exchange — fundamentally different from gambling. Like stock and commodity exchanges, event contract prices are driven by supply, demand, and information. Prices reflect research, analysis, and collective intelligence. The more you know, the better your trades. You can exit your position at any time by selling your shares on the open market — just like selling stocks.

How are markets resolved?

Each market has clear resolution criteria defined when it's created. Resolution is based on official, publicly verifiable sources (government data, official results, verifiable records). Markets resolve when the event occurs, the deadline passes, or the outcome becomes certain. Winning shares are automatically paid out — no action needed. If a resolution is contested, the platform reviews it based on the original criteria.

What's the maximum I can lose?

Your maximum loss is exactly what you paid for the shares — nothing more. Every trade is fully collateralized: you pay the full amount upfront. There's no margin, no leverage, no debt, and no hidden fees that can amplify your losses. If you buy 50 Yes shares at 60¢ each (Le 675,000 total), the most you can lose is Le 675,000.

Can I sell my shares before the market resolves?

Yes! You can sell your shares at any time at the current market price. This lets you take profit early if the price has moved in your favor, or cut your losses if you've changed your mind.

How do deposits and withdrawals work?

Local currency in, local currency out. You deposit via mobile money or fintech in your local currency. Predicta's treasury converts it to USD/USDC at the live exchange rate for stability. When you withdraw or receive a payout, the treasury converts back to your local currency. All conversions happen automatically. Deposits process in 2–5 minutes, withdrawals in 5–30 minutes.

What are minting and merging?

Minting is how new shares enter the market. When a Yes buyer at X¢ and a No buyer at (100-X)¢ meet, the system creates one Yes share and one No share from the equivalent of $1.00 in collateral. Merging is the reverse: if you hold 1 Yes share and 1 No share in the same market, you can cash them in for the equivalent of $1.00 anytime before resolution — guaranteed, regardless of the current share price.

What fees does Predicta charge?

Makers (limit orders): 0% fee — you're rewarded for providing liquidity. Takers (market orders): small fee — helps keep the platform running. No deposit fees. A small withdrawal processing fee applies.

Why does Predicta hold my balance in USD?

Stability. Local currencies in West Africa can fluctuate significantly. By holding your trading balance in USD/USDC, your money maintains its purchasing power regardless of local exchange rate swings. When you deposit, we convert at the live rate. When you withdraw, we convert back. You always transact in your local currency — the USD/USDC conversion is handled entirely by the treasury behind the scenes.
